Victoria has been a leader in market-based instruments within Australia. The ecoMarkets project is a component of Our Environment, Our Future which uses a comprehensive, market-based approach to environmental policy to achieve a full range of ecosystem services.

ecoMarkets and their significance

The name ecoMarkets is used by The Victorian Government for a system of market-based approaches designed to reward land managers for environmental improvements on their properties. These programs include market-based approaches such as auctions and cap and trade systems.

ecoMarkets have been developed by the Victorian Government to balance ecosystem health and agricultural productivity. Its purpose is to provide incentives for producing ecosystem outcomes such as clean water and biodiversity.
