Who is involved in MBIs?

The Designer Carrots program is a capacity building program targeted at two major groups; government and regional natural resource management (NRM) groups. Within government there are federal, state, territory and local jurisdictions, which are able to implement market-based instruments (MBIs).

Each regional NRM group has a community board with representatives from a number of groups including industry, indigenous and environmental. All of these participants are responsible for implementing regional NRM and the Designer Carrots program’s success will depend largely on building the capacity for all of these groups in MBIs.

Catchment management authorities (CMAs) and regional NRM bodies

CMAs and regional NRM bodies, and the community they represent, are an integral part of regional NRM and a key audience for the Designer Carrots capacity building program. Several regional NRM groups have experience with implementing and developing MBIs for NRM.

Government departments and agencies

The Australian, state and territory governments are a key audience for the Designer Carrots capacity building program. All levels of government are working together to implement regional NRM and several areas have good experience with implementing and developing MBIs for NRM.

Industry groups

Industry groupscan also play a big role in the development of successful MBIs. There are a number of industry groups currently participating in MBIs.

Education and research institutions

Many educational and research institutions are helping directly and indirectly to provide knowledge and research on MBIs.

Indigenous involvement

Indigenous groups are already implementing MBIs and some key learning’s can be gained from these projects and adopted by other groups from around Australia.
