SEQ Catchments and the
University of the Sunshine Coast have collaborated to develop a framework for organisations and individuals to more easily integrate the idea of ecosystem services into everyday operations.
The South East Queensland Ecosystem Services Framework aims to provide the tools to enable government, industry, business, researchers, non-government organisations and land managers to apply the concept of ecosystem services in their planning and management practices.
The group have produced a research paper, The Development of an Ecosystem Services Framework for South East Queensland, which describes the four vital components of the ecosystem services framework and related matrices and maps.
The research paper explains the framework and the processes used to develop the matrices and maps, which identify and illustrate the links between the framework’s four key components—ecosystems, ecosystem functions, ecosystem services and community wellbeing. These matrices and maps serve to identify areas where most ecosystem services are generated.
